Blog #5 (Second Semester)

I am most excited about my capstone project this semester, mostly due to the fact that this is my last semester of high school, and this is the last year of PLTW for me. Also, I am excited about my capstone project because I am working on an interesting concept for the project. My group has not run into any major issues with our capstone project so far, but I do believe that we may run into issues with our mentor, specifically reaching out to them frequently enough, and communication in general.

Products that are made to benefit others, are not designed and marketed with profit in mind. The product is made purely as a solution to a problem. There is no planned obsolescence, or ridiculous price tag. The ideal product like this, is over engineered so that it will not break and need to be replaced, and is only sold with a minimum profit margin to allow for the continued development of the product, and to cover operating and manufacturing costs.

The benefits of developing products this way, is the potential to garner respect and gather a very loyal fan base of returning customers, and a great reputation.

This is a shame, because many companies like Apple churn out low quality products with planned obsolescence, and a ridiculous price tag. These sorts of trends have leaked into industries with better reputations recently, like the automotive industry and the video game industry.
